Longtime subscriber, performance coach, and Olympic Gold Medalist Joe Jacobi replies to Tuesday’s email I’m too tired – just not feelin’ it (used with permission):
Bon Dia, Kevin,
Sometimes it takes a few days to process some ideas or thoughts – I really liked this post and had me thinking about something I speak with clients (literally just yesterday.)
Sometimes, just acknowledging to yourself that you are feeling less than ideal and to do so without trying to change it is much of the game…. from here, two things tend to happen:
1) as you go about your work, you accommodate the “less than ideal” feelings in the moment and work with what you have.
2) simply getting better at noticing where you are without any forcing of yourself to a better place often moves the needle to a better place… provided you just start.
I’ve seen this work not just in writing but when I run, paddle, speak Catalan, clean, invoice, etc.
Getting over this idea that we have to feel good to start is a big step – often, we have to start in order to feel good.
Wishing you a great day!
With gratitude,
Joe
Thank you as always, Joe, for your deep insight and friendship.
I’m here,
Kevin
