How to start your marketing with “I”

In today’s guest email post: Melissa DeLay of TruPerception delivers a masterclass on how to turn the lens to you while still making it all about your prospect.

The “Spill the Truth” Weekly Email Newsletter helps CEOs find the right words to lead their companies.

Here is Melissa’s most recent post in its entirety:

Do You Need a New Job?

If you’re in the market for a new role, take heart.

It’s possible in any economy to find multiple jobs that meet your salary and benefit requirements.

If you’ve ever heard me speak on career advancement, you know I once negotiated a 60% salary increase while 6 months visibly pregnant.

I also had competing job offers in 2009 during the banking crisis.

Trust me, it wasn’t because I was more talented or qualified than the other candidates.

I just did a better job of convincing employers that I was worth investing in.

Because that’s exactly what they’re deciding when they see your resume or talk to you.

Are you worth investing in?

I know that you are.

But do they?

Are you making it clear in your cover letter?

Or are you simply offering a laundry list of skills?

Can they see in less than 10 seconds how exactly you would fill a need they have?

Is your resume full of the stuff you did or the results you brought?

These questions and many others will be answered on the next episode of Soap.

Just kidding … they’re actually over here on my LinkedIn Carousel.

Yours,

—Melissa

P.S. Brownie points for anyone who remembers that hilarious ABC (circa 1980) sitcom.

I’m here,
