7-Second Thoughts August 5, 2024

It is not up to your client

To provide you with content.

If you’re a website designer

It’s very different from, say, accounting

You better get your stuff in by X date if you want your taxes done on time

On the contrary

As a website designer

Your whole job is to

Use all of your powers of persuasion

Pull out all the stops

Beg, power and steal

To glean your client’s expertise

And get it on the page.

Yes, it takes time

But every second of that time

Pays enormous dividends for both you

And the client

Including:

A deeper relationship

Greater trust

Better work

Much, much, much better work

Finishing on time and on budget

Without putting out fires

Or working nights and weekends

And with all that comes:

The ability to charge higher prices

For the design services you can now sell

With much less effort

Long after your client’s website goes live.

Here’s the thing:

Treat your client like they’re coming in to do their taxes

And you’ll be commoditized instantly

Treat the discovery process as a nurturing process

And you’ll have a dream client

That’s much more profitable

For both of you.

I’m here,

Kevin
