And only in sales.
When a company hires a new salesperson
That person must already know how to sell
But can be taught how to sell their new product.
On the other hand
When a company hires someone new in IT for example
That person already knows how to code, develop or build software
But not necessarily how to move up in the ranks of the company
Like a salesperson inherently knows
Which is precisely what makes it so frustrating for:
Non-sales
Non-extrovert
Non-awesome communicators to
… how do I put this?
Basically learn how to be salespeople.
See if this helps:
If you’re struggling to reach the next level
Either working for yourself or someone else
Consider becoming a stand-up comedian.
Not even kidding
Why?
Any kind of stagework
Performance
Improv
Or acting class
Can short-circuit years of leadership training
Even therapy
And help you sell the value you can bring
To the people who don’t yet see it.
I’m here,
Kevin
P.S. Thank you to Jerry Black of IT Misfits for bringing an entirely new perspective to what often keeps introverts from breaking through and helping me understand how my own (at-first terrifying) experience taking classes at Upright Citizen’s Brigade in New York allowed me to become a much, much better sales person 🤣)
