This is a direct message I received from someone on LinkedIn. It checks every last box of what to do when you get laid off and need to prospect for a new fulltime job.
Consider using this as a template, filling in titles, desired outcomes, and ways to refer you just as Kate has done.
This is a masterclass in how to get a response.
Which is all you’re hoping for from a message like this.
And all you need.
Here’s Kate:
Hi Kevin, I’m reaching out to a select number of trusted friends and associates to let you know I am “Open for Work,” as they say on LinkedIn. Unfortunately, my position as Head of Field Marketing, North America was eliminated last month from Nilfisk so I am busy trying to find my next big thing. If you’re receiving this, you probably know me pretty well and understand that I’m very independent and I don’t usually ask for help. This is a tough one for me! I’m not asking for much other than, if you have a personal connection who you know is hiring for positions like Director of Marketing, Sr Marketing Manager or any more experienced or leadership marketing/communications/brand roles, can you let me know? I’m on all the job searches, so I generally see most openings, but knowing someone who personally knows a hiring manager and is willing to make a connection goes a LONG WAY. Additionally, if there’s anyone you think I should connect with directly, would you mind helping me make a connection? Finally, I have included my resume in case you wanted a copy of it. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer. I truly appreciate you and the connection we’ve made over the years
Kate
(then she attached her resume as a pdf)
